Far from a new jack producer, Rui is the man behind insanely hot Portuguese band X-Wife: a band that are huge in their native land and have played alongside bands the calibre of LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, Gossip and the Arctic Monkeys. For Untracked 05 Rui has fully unleashed his love of analog synths, disco and all the accoutrements, displaying his kick-ass production ability and obvious knack for writing hook-laden instrumental dance music.
Rui counts New Order, Add n to (x) and Suicide amongst his major loves; these spectres always loom in his music without, thankfully, ever becoming anything more than influences.
Along with Rui's brilliant originals, we have a typically killer rework of "Cantonese Man" from Danny Berman aka Hot Coins, who has dubbed it, beefed it and flipped it with dark detroit atmospherics into a straight dancefloor detonation...
