UNTRACKED UT006

You are holding in your hot, expectant little hands the second release from Nottingham auteur Mr Danny Berman a.k.a Hot Coins. Not only that, but you are holding the "difficult" sixth release from the re-launched Untracked Recordings, the new discoid eclectic (and more) label lovingly midwifed by none other than Atlantic Conveyor.

Hot Coins (or Danny as we shall know him) is best known as the podcast maestro behind www.redrackem.com, the 'net show that's become as crucial to heads in Wellington New Zealand as to leftfield music freaks in Warsaw or Berlin. Now, after his first release on Society Records became Piccadilly's "Record Of The Week" and was subsequently licensed to Ministry of Sound, Danny's Hot Coins productions have gone front of box for some of the world's biggest leftfield DJ's. Danny's been heralded by Gilles Peterson as one of the UK's most important up-and-coming producers, he has just delivered a guest mix which will be featured on the Worldwide show in the coming weeks and has also been invited to play at the Worldwide Music Awards in January.

"You Can't Pray For Your Soul" is a slice of Theo Parrish-esque cosmic funk, underpinned by soaring synths and subaquatic vocals wishing to "play for you". If you like your beatdown heavy, tense and emotive, you're gonna love this.

On the flip is the piano-driven, subs-sodden "Christmas Day". Danny chops and dices sublime jazz with the NY weight of a Pete Rock production, as the hats skitter and race to catch-up with the Dilla-like programming. Soon the track becomes darker and edgier, detroit pads descend creating a opiate swirl of forgotten melodies and transitions: This is real composition, no eight-bar build-ups in sight.

If you're fortunate enough to have been sent a link or a CD by us here at Untracked, please remember that we are a small, boutique label that upholds the dying art of vinyl production. We're all about limited runs, beautiful embossed artwork and sensational underground dance music. In other words, keep this to yourself. Be part of the Untracked family and keep our movement alive!
